HostGator was first formed in 2002 by Brent Oxley while he was still in college. Since then, HostGator has grown very rapidly to become one of the largest web hosting companies without the common issues associated with a rapidly growing company.

Price Value
Their shared hosting plan doesn't come with a free domain name so you will have to pay an extra $15 per year for that. Their cheapest plan is $4.95 per month and doesn't let you add parked/addon domains, so you'll have to go for the bit more expensive plan, which is $6.95 per month. They aren't the cheapest around -- but definitely quality is there.

Performance & Reliability
After tracking their uptime and performance, we have seen very good numbers. However, there have been the occasional load spikes and dropped packets. This is nothing too big to be concerned about, it's normal and will happen on any shared hosting provider.

Support
They employ around the clock, 24/7/365 technical support via phone and e-mail. Service is one of their strong points and that's what they are known for.

Control Panel
HostGator uses the cPanel/WHM control panel which is always a winner. It's simple and easy to use and lots of web masters have experience with cPanel.
